The Sisterhood Brunch

'You use steel to sharpen steel, and one friend sharpens another...'

Proverbs 27:17

In December, I had a small idea in my head and heart to connect some of the women in my life, to pray for each other and to send each other a simple mug!

I picked 20 women at random and we did it! It was heart warming to see the women who I loved dearly sharing with each other and getting to know each other.

'Never underestimate what God can do when you surrender everything to Him.'

In January I started a blog, and unfortunately it was all about me. I love instagram, love fashion, love coffee and thought I was the cool kid - and maybe could make this blog thing happen. Reading back to some of my early blogs you can see they're all about me, the 'materialistic me'. After few meaningless blog posts, I couldn't help but write about my faith - it's a huge part of what makes me.

One evening, I was convicted in my devotions. I heard God clearly saying to me, 'Give this to me...and I will use you'. Well...I did - and I don't even know how to begin writing about the journey that I'm on...

The 20 women that encouraged and gifted each other, turned into 40,100, 200 and right now 362 women are gifting and sharing. There are over 1000 members belonging to the Facebook group page - its growing every day!

WHAT!!!!???!?!?!?

I decided that we would have a gathering together, make it beautiful, make it easy, relaxing and make it all honor and reflect God who gave me this vision.

A vision that women need to be in prayer supporting each other.

A vision that doesn't have restrictions on age or where you are in life.

A vision that is global.

A vision that is God honoring.

A vision that strengthens, encourages and loves deeply.

A vision that is not awkward!

Last Saturday we experienced our first Sisterhood Brunch event. I want this community to have a number of different levels and exchanges, and one of them is meeting together to refresh each other.

'Blessed is she who has believed that the Lord would fulfill His promises to her.'

Luke 1:45

Several weeks before, I had scouted a few places in my local area to host this event, and the Philipse Historial Manor was literally looking at me from my bedroom window. The site of Frederick Philipse, a restored Dutch Colonial manor house took my breath away. It was perfect.

Last Saturday, this vision, this yearning for a community of building up other women became real and alive. 40 creative women gathered together, drank coffee (really good coffee), prayed and laughed.

We met together.

'For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.'

Matthew 18:20

A part of the Sisterhood includes a pairing and gifting program and it's by no mistake that my beautiful sister, Jessica Pineda was the first to lead our creative workshop on Bible Journaling. The time spent together, munching on croissants and painting bolding in our bibles will be etched in my heart forever.

The room was filled with women from all different walks of life. Moms... moms to be...grandmothers...hipsters...ministers...nurses...teachers...students..accountants.

It shouldn't work! It shouldn't be easy to throw so many different scenarios in one room.

But it was perfect!

I was amazed by the strength and support in the room. As I spoke a little about my vision for this group and the honesty of my heart echoed around the room - I felt each women reach out to me, cheer me on and hold my hand!

We need this community - God knows we need it and He has planted each woman as part of The Sisterhood.

'Great things are brought about and burdens are lightened through the efforts of many hands anxiously engaged in a good cause.' Ballard

My favorite moment of the morning happened when I was outside the room listening to the chatter and laughter, listening to zero awkwardness but pure love enveloping the room. I am so thankful for this time. I'm overwhelmed (in such a good way). God is moving. He is blessing us with new friendships that will refresh our soul and awaken our hearts with joy!

This is God's Sisterhood! He breathes through every single part of it! He will continue to multiply this movement into something bigger than we can dream or imagine and I am so excited to see what His plans hold!

'Small acts, when multiplied by God, can transform the world.'

I will continue to follow the wind of his breath, holding tight to my own breath and pinching myself along the way to see what amazing things God is going to do.

This is only the beginning...

Give me a vision, Lord I plead.

Vision of souls and world in need.

Loved ones and friends, the one next door,

Then let me see there are a million more.
