The Sisterhood Paint Brunch - May

Faith + Creativity = The Sisterhood

I have had so many 'Christmas Eve' feelings these last 6 months. How did this happen? 3000 women? Why me? Quickly turn into exclamations of Thank you Jesus! Equip me...quick! I'll do it...all of it!!!

Just as God equipped Moses to lead the Israelites with Aaron and his staff, as God gave Esther the courage to go before the king, he will also equip us and in this case me for the visions he gives.

“God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that having all sufficiency in all things at all times, you may abound in every good work” (2 Cor. 9:8).

God doesn’t call us to something only to leave us hanging. He is present, he provides for us, and he enables us for today and tomorrow.

Community for me is important - I love deeply and love the refreshing feeling of people around me. When a Sisterhood Brunch is in planning stages, I want it to be a space of creativity as well as community.

I was so excited that Carole Voisey would come to direct a paint class with sisters from around the New York area. Carole is fierce - in a wonderful, God-honoring way. She exudes Jesus - she is bold - and her direction is clear. I'm lucky to have her in my life and even more so to share her with The Sisterhood in this brunch. Whatever we would paint, Carole would gently turn our thoughts Heaven-ward and seek more of God.

If you are ever in doubt of attending a Sisterhood Brunch, the joy of these ladies refreshed faces should make you not have a second thought. It's a space for rest, for creativity, for meeting Jesus in community and for drinking really good coffee!

I want these 'gatherings' to breathe a little of my passions and what certainly reflect what I support. When you consider how many small businesses surround you in your everyday lives, it is impressive to think about the amount of time, commitment and labor these hard working individuals contribute to make their businesses both come to life and stay alive. All of our serve wear and utensils are eco friendly from Verterra - sustainable alternative to disposable paper and plastic plates. No trees are ever harvested or cut down for this line. No chemicals, waxes, dyes or additives are applied. Our candles where donated by Lumiere by Lisa, they are 100% Soy Wax candles created with the fragrance of essential oils. Jenna from Scribbling Grace kindly donated one of her beautiful painted journalling bibles for a giveaway. Jenna is so passionate about sharing the world of Bible art to others, she knows it can help those of us who are visual learners to study and enjoy the Word in a new way! 139made is a huge support to The Sisterhood and all the prints where gifted from Inka. Inka creatively designs apparel, imbued with life-giving messages. Her heart supports the fight against human trafficking and all products are ethically made. Cake - Yes! At every Sisterhood event there is and will be cake!! This is not just any cake - this is cake made with love from one of our own beautiful sisters. Katie is a blessing to me, always supporting and always creative. The Sisterhood Cake is the center of the gorgeous food table every time. Finally - 'Coffee and Jesus' always makes a good start to the day. Coffee labs in Tarrytown so graciously donated enough coffee for the brunch.

Yes to all of it!! Can I get an Amen!?!?!

In the last few months I've made connections with local and other small businesses that I literally could not have even dreamed about. We are all on the same journey, all birthing new ministries for todays society, all searching for God's direction in the need of others, the support for each other is simply overwhelming.

As we painted in the workshop, Carole reminded us to not look sideways and compare - our painting was unique and it was perfect. Like Esther, a woman who was fearfully and wonderfully made with a purpose - we as women can rise up and live that life too, 'for such a time as this'.

'fixing our attention on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of the faith, who, in view of the joy set before him, endured the cross, disregarding its shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.' Hebrews 12:2

We all have the same pile (or piles) of laundry, the bills, the stress and anxiety - but 'for such a time as this' we get to sit, paint, drink coffee, rest in community and let the world just wait for a bit.

This event was special as it was on the same weekend as Mother's day. Some daughters brought there mother to enjoy this beautifully created, restful experience together. Mothers are special - I would have LOVED to have my mum at a Sisterhood Brunch... but I share the joy when I see others snapping up the opportunity and creating beautiful memories with their mothers - and mothers with their daughters.

'When you look at your mother. You're looking at the purest love you'll ever know'

We seek our purpose in the world sometimes, and it is good to be reminded to seek God in all things and say YES to living out the planned purpose God already has in our lives.

If God has clearly planted a seed in your heart...if He's asking you to step out in faith for Him...if He is asking you to rise up like Esther and seek His purpose in your life, He will see that we carry it through and get to the end. He will give us the peace and enough grace needed to do what He is asking, He will equip us when we feel unworthy. Maybe not a perfect, straightforward path — in fact, certainly not perfect — but all He asks is for us to say 'YES', to be obedient, to rise up and leave the outcome to him.

“Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go” (Joshua 1:9).
